Also: fighting Dominators is really, really easy with NPC henchmen. Half the battleships in my galaxy are named after me. I can make more money trading than fighting Dominators, so I simply drop 100k on military bases for fleets. Then you can buy good equipment and start fighting Dominators if the war requires it. Using bank money and business studies you can grow your business very quickly. Repay the loan when it comes due and simply take out another, larger loan. Simply trading in this way will have you rolling in more money than you can ever spend. This will leave you with several profitable routes and a pile of money. Do a google for 'plan' to see if you can see any good trades where you start, but as quickly as possible you want to fly to a business base and take out the largest loan you can and do a business study.
Take everything off it except the engine/fueltank. Start with a tradeship, pick at least engine and tradeskill. The best way to start is to get piles of money: the best way to make money is trade. BTW REPAIR DROIDS ARE AMAZING! if you have a fast engine. After that i load up 2 missle launchers 1 atomic vission, and 1 misc. Also i always buy ships over 600 and i aim for 800 size ships (very hard). Once i have enough money i buy the best hull (usualy 100-300k) which is the purply guys Faliki class hull (only 1 spot missing on it) or the human "ideal" hull whihc has every spot open.
The 3 best skills, Aim, Mobility, the repair on. I also usualy sell my weapons and scanner at the start since i dont plan on fighting. Early on in the game you can take the prottection missions and just go do what you want.

I also usualy have 1-5 probes going for those nice mod items. *start* Pick from the biggest hull from the race you pick (i usually do the purply guys and freightor) i then spend the first couple hours doing "transport" missions "prottection mission" while i buy/sell items (use the thumbs up and down as a general idea when to buy and sell).
